Stinging Nettle: A Love Story
Spring also brings a yearning for connection—a connection to nature, my loved ones, and myself. This yearning for connection feels particularly potent in springtime, doesn’t it?

There’s something magical about spring—the way nature unfurls, like a much-needed stretch after a long night. The morning air is crisp, carrying the scent of Hyacinths and damp earth. The trees are budding, and my peonies are making their grand appearance, pushing through the cold ground with their delicate greenery. My windows are open inviting the gentle, chilly breeze to bid me good morning while the sounds of nature flow into my currently quiet house. These early mornings, filled with the melodies of birds and the soft breeze caressing my cheek, are some of my favorite ways to start the day. They bring a sense of calm and the desire for deep reflection.
Spring also brings a yearning for connection—a connection to nature, my loved ones, and myself. This yearning for connection feels particularly potent in springtime, doesn’t it? I have this desire to ground myself in the awakening energy of the earth, shedding my winter layers and reaching out to loved ones who are also emerging from winter’s quietude. Springtime brings an abundance of wonder, magic, and connection into our daily lives. It is a time of renewal; a refresher, really—a moment to dust off the winter slumber.
As I reflect this morning on spring and what it represents, it brings me back to the reason for this post, this springtime reverie: Stinging Nettle. Stinging Nettle came into my life when I needed it the most and will forever be my first herbal love. Nettle is a teacher, not just as a plant, but also in life itself. It teaches us to be present, aware, and respectful of boundaries. As a plant that ‘stings,’ its lessons are quite visceral often causing people to avoid it. However, this avoidance is also a lesson. How often do we judge things (and ourselves) too quickly? How often do we miss out on discovering the magic within?
Nettles remind us that strength can come in unexpected forms and that, despite their protective exterior, they are rich in vitamins and minerals—something you wouldn’t know if you only judged nettles at surface level. I find that nettles are not only teachers but also sources of inspiration. Within their prickly exterior lies a well of nutrients, ever flowing. A symbol of the deep, often unseen, love and wellness that we, too, hold within.
A springtime (and year-round) favorite thing of mine is Nettle Infusions. The simple act of steeping these leaves feels like a perfect way to welcome spring’s renewal within my own body. How do you welcome spring into your wellness journey? Have you ever worked with nettle? I would love to hear your stories!
